De TNCC-cursus is ontworpen door en voor verpleegkundigen en wordt ook door verpleegkundigen uitgevoerd. In deze cursus wordt een standaard­methode voor een kwalitatief optimale aanpak van een traumapatiënt aangeleerd. Deze methode is gebaseerd op internationaal geaccepteerde uitgangspunten en doelstellingen in de acute en ongevalszorg. De cursus is ontwikkeld in de VS door de Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). In 1995 is besloten de TNCC in Nederland te introduceren.
